Research focus
The electronic transport through single molecules can be controlled and concepts of redox-gated nanostructures can be explored in an electrochemical environment by tuning the Fermi level of the electrodes relative to the energy levels of a redox-molecule. The single molecule conductance was measured by the STM “stretching” technique, which involves a large number of repeated formations and breaking of molecular bridges between a Au-STM tip and a Au (111) substrate. Each breaking event is revealed as a step in the conductance trace. The statistical analysis of the individual traces allows the determination of the conductance of the molecular junctions.
